Minor technicality… From the shadows, it looks like there could be two light sources, but I only saw the good Father with one lantern. Maybe there is a… um, divine presence… keeping watch?
On Dec. 19, the priest was carryng a lantern. On Dec. 26, Velia had one when she left home. So they each have one, hence the double shadows shape. That doesn’t rule out divine presence, however. Velia herself is divine.
I always sort of feel bad for Lou. Yeah, he’s insecure, doesn’t have much going for him, but he genuinely seems to care deeply for Velia. Except, Velia doesn’t seem to really acknowledge his feeling for her and always seems to be searching for someone, or something, better. He offers emotion (maybe too much) and she wants excitement or escape. Perhaps it’s just another one of Lou’s many failures. Poor guy. He needs to get it together.
@Bill, I just remembered. On November 28, we heard that there was a light switch for the steps that go from the confessional into Hell. The depths of Hell might be more convenient there than we’ve been believing.
Then again, Rina might have been trusting that her readers wouldn’t draw conclusions that strayed from the storyline that she admitted was being developed as it went along. The very nature of Hell might be adapting to support the progression of the plot!
Fr. Benedito is a priest with years and years of theological education, and he should know all about hell. Velia should trust him on this
