Rina, I felt the swear bubble was a bit much. I’m guessing you meant it to reveal an epiphany – but it doesn’t jive with Lou’s usual simpering self. Most characters stay true to form, non? But that aside, as always I love the strip and am looking forward to more details on Vel’s dad…and ex wife…and Gianni’s connection to Lou. The suspense! Thanks for being part of my procrastination routine every week.
As a retailer of comic books and art, I can attest to seeing normally quiet folks going ballistic over tiny dings and smudges in their pieces. Original art of R. Crumb (a very real comic artist of no small acclaim within the comic-art community, just in case the name is unfamiliar) is scarce and held in high regard. It probably cost Lou dearly and his decision to sell it just to score points with Velia could not have been easy. So the loss of the piece would be a double-whammy that would likely send him over the edge.
Nobody is ever gonna touch my original R. Piccolo piece, that’s for profanity sure!
Hi,Neil and TorontoGirl — thanks for the input. Here’s the thing — I try not to make my characters too two-dimensional. True, Lou is (most times)
‘his usual simpering self’, but if Lou were like that ALL of the time, and never wavered from that one mode of being, then he’d be two-dimensional. Plus, Neil– what you say is true — Look what’s been done to him! Not only is Gianni stealing his girlfriend, but he stole an extremely valuable object from him. Even the most wimpish person in the real world has had moments of ballistic freaking out in their life– when it’s called for — and that’s because real people have more than two dimensions. So I believe this is one time in Lou’s life where a total freaking out is warranted.
On another note… don’t get too fixated on Vel’s Papa, etc…. that’s all I’ll say!
Thanks again for the feedback!
