Thanks Desouzam! And hey, I’ll look forward to seeing you there, too! I’m not sure if they’ll have a table for me (I’m a “guest”, but not sure yet what I’ll be doing)… but I will have a “Velia, Dear” collection by then
Just caught up with Velia,Dear. Brilliant strip, thanks for drawing it.
I was wondering, do you do the comics and ink wash by hand or use a computer program or a combination of both? I am interested in learning to do ink wash comics (by hand). Are there any books you might recommend or is it just a case of trial by fire?
M.C. — Thanks for your comment, I appreciate it!
So, about that ink wash — what you see is pure, pure, pure — just water, ink, and a brush. I taught myself how to do it by experimentation and practice (LOTS of practice!) You’ll get the hang of it, and more confident with it, the more you practice and play around with it. It’s easy to be intimidated by it at first (like watercolor) but you’ll grow more confident with it the more you do it.
Sorry I don’t really know of any books that show the process, but I wrote about it briefly in an early blog post. Here it is: http://www.rinapiccolo.com/uncategorized/47/
If you have any other questions, feel free to ask!
Man this is funny, I look forward to meet you at TCAF. Are you going to have any Velia Dear stuff printed?
